Alberta teaching professionals are in the unique position of being able to reimagine their practices through the enactment of the new professional practice standards, each statement professional practice is based on the professional’s reading of the context and the application of the professional’s judgement about the professional knowledge and skills that will most likely lead to optimum learning for all students. All three standard documents are structured in the same manner: one standard, six to nine required competencies, and several optional indicators. Our research team from the universities of Alberta, Calgary, Concordia, and Lethbridge believes that a comprehensive, longitudinal research study can play a significant role in assessing, deepening, and extending the implementation process.  Our  4 -year longitudinal research study will utilize a concurrent, embedded mixed methods design. to gather insights from both quantitative and qualitative methods and report results on a yearly basis to Alberta Education, participants, and stakeholders.
