This panel presentation will highlight the development and outcomes of a three-part intervention to enhance the success of at-risk middle school students. Utilizing state start up funds, one middle school identified students for mentoring, workforce development, and academic support. Mentoring support included regularly scheduled, individualized attention to target students. Workforce development focused on implementation of ACT Career Ready 101, well-matched job site and college visits, and engagement in a youth summit. Academic Support included intensive reading strategies instruction within a tiered literacy framework. Participants will learn not only about outcomes related to student performance, but understand the pivotal leadership decisions and support necessary to invest in such an intensive effort for at-risk students. Participants will also hear about lessons learned and discuss application to other schools.
