Chris Scribe, Nakota/Nehiyaw (Assiniboine/Cree) from the Carry the Kettle Nakoda Oyade, is grounded in his Indigenous culture, language and tradition. His worldview, foundationally built on the life teachings of his father and grandmother, Chris has become an advocate for Indigenous Knowledge in Education.
Chris received his Bachelor of Education through the Indian Teacher Education Program at the University of Saskatchewan (USask), a program in which he accredits much of his academic and professional success. In 2012, Chris completed his Master of Education in the field of educational administration focusing much of his research on the Nakota worldview of leadership. He is currently a PhD candidate in the College of Education at the University of Saskatchewan concentrating his research on Pre-Colonial Leadership Stories of the Cree People of Battle River.
Currently, Chris is the director of the Indian Teacher Education Program (ITEP) at USask. A post-secondary success story for First Nation students, ITEP has quietly led the way in the inclusion of Indigenous language, culture, and identity in teacher education. With over 2500 alumni, ITEP has made a huge difference in the field of education. Boasting a success rate that has 90% of the students who start ITEP finish ITEP.
