Wayne Davies

Steinbach Regional Secondary School
Steinbach, Manitoba Canada
Wayne Davies is an educational leader with 28 years of experience ranging from the classroom to the board office and lots of places in between. He began his career in BC on the Lax Kw’alaams Reserve, eventually returning to his home province of Manitoba working in rural and urban settings. Wayne is a fan of the large school project to pull students, staff and parents together and believes that social justice and community-based initiatives help schools develop strong foundations increasing their capacity for many types of improvement especially literacy. Over his career he has led and taken part in many projects including the writing of BC First Nations Studies 12 and the BOSS Guitar project in support of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights. Currently as Vice Principal at Steinbach Regional Secondary School he is helping find meaningful ways to navigate the Truth & Reconciliation recommendations beginning with Imagine a Canada and the implementation of an indigenous and Metis topics course. He has also worked with students and staff on human rights education and creating an ASL student group. Outside of school, Wayne has just completed his M.ed, coaches volleyball, spends time with his family, is a member of the Manitoba Metis Federation and is balancing his remaining 'free' time between home renovations and writing about leadership. He is looking forward to sharing insights and learnings with colleagues at uLead 2019!
